Daughter Organisations

The daughter organizations—currently number 10—of CIBART all have the same general objective: Increase the overall economic, social and environmental benefits from bamboo and cane for the betterment of the quality of life of people in specific areas. Specific objectives vary with the specific needs of the target beneficiaries, locational characteristics, resource position and other such variables. Plans are deliberately given a degree of flexibility in view of the existing information gaps and the innovative nature of the projects.
All daughter organizations are set up as independent not-for-profit companies under Section 25 of Indian Companies Act, 1956. The overall approach of these companies is market-driven, with emphasis on integrating livelihood and industrial development. The companies can own profit centers, the benefit from which would accrue to the community, as all these companies have direct share holding by the local community. Initially, CIBART and any other participating entity—such as the state government or a statutory body—together hold the majority shares. The majority ownership is divested gradually to the community, as the concept of community-based business organization takes root among the beneficiaries and their capacity to manage the company as a competitive business unit is built up through training and exposure.
Geographic Information System (GIS) using Global Positioning System (GPS) is being increasingly used for resource survey, assessment and management, especially in remote locations. As CIBART believes in leveraging the benefits of modern technology for facilitating its activities, GIS and GPS are used wherever warranted and feasible. A GIS-based system makes constant monitoring and evaluation, and timely course-correction based on these, that more easier.
All these entities receive initial technical and other forms of support from CIBART and, where needed, from INBAR since the general objective and overall approach of these are in consonance with INBAR Programs. Even after the teething period is over, CIBART provides technical support on need basis to its daughter organizations.
CIBART currently has 10 daughter organization in various stages of development.
