Concept
These bookstands make it possible to keep a book in an open position without
holding it. The first one is to be placed in a bookcase to display your
favorite (picture)book. Many beautiful books are never seen because they
are standing closed on a bookshelf. Especially for people with books about
for example art or photography, it’s a nice way not forgetting what collection
of books you have.
The second bookstand keeps your recipe book open in the kitchen. While cooking,
you can have dirty fingers or you need both hands and read the recipe at
the same time.
Specifications
The bookstands are formed with a jig. The angles in the jigs are smaller
then the desired angle because the bamboo will bend back after bending in
the fire. Also the weather affects the angle again. The connections are
necessary to keep the slats together. The knots in the bamboo should be
equally distributed and the color of the bamboo slats has to match. The
brown spots have to be removed or equal.
Developing ideas
The exact angle of the jig, to give the slats the right ‘end-angle’, has
to be found. Also a technique to create a closed surface and smooth angles.
